About Our Founder


Over the past fifteen years, Ernest C. Baynard IV has successfully built and managed numerous grassroots and public affairs campaigns for a diverse group of corporate and political clients.  He has also served in several senior level positions over the past fifteen years in the White House and on Capitol Hill.  Baynard serves as a guest lecturer on media and politics at the United States Military Academy and has also lectured at Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins University.


Baynard and his firm, Meridian Hill Strategies, work with some of the nation’s top CEOs, industry groups and political leaders to create a powerful voice for them inside the Beltway and in the national media.  Over the past ten years, Baynard has built an industry-leading public affairs firm that optimizes a diverse suite of professional services that have enabled its clients to win on critical federal issues and achieve rapid growth.


As a lawyer and communications expert with a strong background in technology and coalition building, Baynard brings a diversified and innovative approach to his work.  Baynard and his firm currently represent number of innovative companies providing solutions to the U.S. government in the areas of defense, homeland security, transportation, trade, communications, clean energy and healthcare.  He has also built and managed some of the most impactful and successful grassroots and media campaigns in the nation in the past ten years.


An avid supporter of the music and the arts, Baynard has brought a wide array of musicians and entertainers together around a number of issues and causes over the past ten years.  Baynard has served as a pro-bono media consultant to the Washington D.C. based Sitar Center (hyperlink), a highly successful program that brings music education and opportunity to disadvantaged youth.  He has produced a number of live music events in association with issues, candidates, Inaugurations and National Political Conventions featuring acts such as The Rebirth Brass Band , The Drive-By Truckers , Jason Isbell, Justin Jones  and others.


In collaboration with Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers, Baynard founded Rock for Democracy, a non-profit organization designed to bring musicians, voters and activists together in support of progressive causes and candidates.  Mr. Baynard is also proud to serve a strategic advisor to the Bruce Lee Foundation and its President, Shannon Lee, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the legacy of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee.


Mr. Baynard was born in Alexandria, Virginia and was raised in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Tulane University in 1993 and was awarded a Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California, May of 1996.  He is admitted to the practice of law in California.  He resides in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife Lindsey, their son, Owen and their Boxer, Rocky.
